American Cancer Society, a voluntary health organization dedicated to the eradication of cancer. revealed that Dogecoin is the third most donated cryptocurrency.
The most popular meme coin accounts for 4% of all contributions received by ACS.
America’s largest non-government funder of cancer research began accepting Dogecoin donations back in May 2021.
The organization allows donations with many different cryptocurrencies, including Dogecoin competitor Shiba Inu with The Giving Block, a popular cryptocurrency donation solution.
Last year, ACS launched the Cancer Crypto Fund campaign to raise $1 million to advance cancer research. In the end, this year the goal was achieved. The organization says that cryptophilanthropy is already making a “real impact.”
In October, SafeBreast Inu’s Christian Linge donated $250,000, the largest individual contribution to ASL Cancer’s crypto fund to date.
The Voluntary Health Organization was founded in 1913 by doctors and businessmen from New York. The founders sought to educate doctors, patients, and family members about the disease.
Most of ASL’s resources are invested in cancer research and patient support.
Meme coins have become popular among various charities following the massive rise of cryptocurrency in 2021. According to Cryptooshala, Susan G. Komen, the world’s largest breast cancer charity, began accepting Shiba Inu and Dogecoin in late December.
Last month, the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR), an American non-profit organization, also began accepting 30 different cryptocurrencies.
