Last year, after a three-year long hiatus, we emerged from the pandemic stronger than ever and opened the largest and Some would like Tell,Best Devcon yet. Since then, we were often asked “When DevCon 7?” Well, today we have some news!
๐ฅ When is Devcon 7!?
We are very pleased to announce that Devcon 7 will be coming to Southeast Asia in 2024!
Before you ask if we got our years right, we’ll tell you why we’re scheduling Devcon 7 for 2024. We thought long and hard about this. here’s why:
1) More Impact ๐
One of the most powerful things about Devcon VI in Bogota was the participation from the flourishing Latin American Ethereum community. Looking back three years, we’ve had plenty of time to engage with, support and empower local communities and make the most impact on a regional Ethereum community.
We aim to create a similar impact on the road to DevCon 7 in Southeast Asia, giving the growing Ethereum community there more time to mature and grow. We look forward to seeing new grassroots communities emerge.
2) More importance ๐ฅ
Devcon VI in Bogotรก set the bar high with the presence of the community, the quality of the content and updates, and the production itself. Scheduling DevCon 7 for 2024 buys us time and allows us to maintain the level because of the following:
Projects and protocols will have time to grow and improve, so the speakers will have something really important to share. With more time for production and thought, we can make this a top event again. A slower tempo can make the event more approachable. For those who want to participate but don’t want to (or can’t) travel to DevCon every year. The longer the wait, the more the anticipation! ๐ 3) Adoption of subtraction ๐คฒ
More Ethereum initiatives and communities are popping up around the world this year than ever before. As Aya mentioned in her talk about the Ethereum Foundation’s subtraction mindset, we want to subtract so you can add. The same is true with community Ethereum events, and we want to give local community events a place to grow. Ultimately, the Ethereum ecosystem is stronger with more diverse participants.

Ultimately, we are positive that scheduling Devcon 7 for 2024 will be beneficial to each attendee and increase its overall impact on the community as a whole.
Southeast Asia and Ethereum ๐
As our flagship event, Devcon focuses on reconnecting everyone, engaging with external communities, sharing important messages and updates, and welcoming newcomers to Ethereum.
Ethereum is global, and bringing Devcon to Southeast Asia is in line with our goal of reaching more local Ethereum communities as well as increasing diversity within the overall Ethereum community. The Ethereum community is still Western-dominated in many ways, despite the fact that crypto is more practically used in Southeast Asia. For example, four countries in Southeast Asia are in the top 20 of the Global Crypto Adoption Index with Vietnam and the Philippines at #1 and #2.
There is a vast untapped and ever-growing opportunity in Southeast Asia, as we saw in South America.
Thus, Devcon 7 in Southeast Asia provides an opportunity to give a platform to a large, new, active and diverse community on the World Ethereum platform.
๐ BTW, we are still evaluating specific locations within Southeast Asia, and the final decision will be based on a number of factors, some of which are as simple as location availability. Some Southeast Asian communities have already submitted great proposals (which are still under consideration!), and we are reopening the forum to give other Southeast Asian communities some additional time to propose their cities Are!
Deadline for suggestions is March 15, 2023!
We can’t wait to explore the diverse cultures of Southeast Asia and the different places in the region, from the bustling streets of Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur to the beautiful beaches of Bali and Phuket, the majestic mountains of Vietnam and more.
Finally, we’d like to thank everyone who submitted proposals for Devcon 7 locations in the forum. They were very helpful, it was not an easy decision, and the suggestions will be useful for years to come, not only for Devcon but for many Ethereum community events.
