Just behind the top ten is Gary Gensler, chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Gensler has significant knowledge of cryptocurrencies and blockchain and has previously taught a course on the sector at MIT. Touting the view that most digital assets fall under the classification of securities, Gensler may have had a heavy hand in terms of regulating the crypto sector in 2022.
Gensler was ranked 29th on Cryptooshala’s 2022 Top 100 Candidates list, ranking higher on the 2023 list. As noted above, Emmer, another top 30 player, criticized Gensler in 2022 for his approach to regulating the crypto industry. Other names in the 11-20 group include ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin and ShapeShift CEO Eric Voorhees.
The 2023 Cryptooshala Top 100 ranking was the public, revealing profiles of people, concepts, and entities. The list includes those who positively and negatively influenced the crypto space – heroes and villains.
