Keanu Reeves Says Dismissing Crypto Will Only Make It Better

Renowned actor Keanu Reeves says that ditching crypto or criticizing its volatility will only “improve its security.” The Matrix star added that the principle and ideas behind the independent currency are “amazing.”

Keanu Reeves Praises Cryptocurrency

Famous actor Keanu Reeves spoke about cryptocurrency in an interview with Wired published on Tuesday. The Matrix and John Wick star opined:

I think the principle, the ideas behind independent currency, are amazing. These are amazing tools for sharing and distributing resources.

“So, as far as cryptocurrency or cryptocurrency volatility is concerned, it will only improve it in terms of its protection,” he added, without providing further details.

Earlier, the Hollywood star revealed that he owns a cryptocurrency. “A friend of mine bought them for me a while ago,” he said in December 2021, adding that he hadn’t done anything with them.

Reeves, NFTs and the Metaverse

Reeves also explained how he became an advisor to the Futureverse Foundation, a charity launched last June by Non-Fungible Labs, a New Zealand-based non-fungible token (NFT) and blockchain technology company. In addition to supporting underrepresented artists, the foundation explained that it is “committed to helping keep the metaverse widely accessible, healthy, and evolving.”

Reeves shared: “My partner, Alexandra Grant, is very interested in this, so I kind of play on her tails. I helped arrange the launch.” Both Reeves and Grant are advisors to the Futureverse Foundation. Reeves described:

We’re trying to take this technology that people are interested in and empower artists with different perspectives.

Commenting on Meta Platforms, previously Facebook, making the metaverse a priority, Reeves said, “It’s like they’ve created more land. There is also land for sale. It’s wealth creation and it’s an opportunity.”

The Matrix star has previously expressed his skepticism about NFTs, saying they are “easy to make”. He was also skeptical of the Facebook metaverse. “Can we just not have a metaverse like Facebook invented? The metaverse concept is much older,” he said in December 2021.
