Flutterwave, the Nigerian fintech giant, recently announced that it has received two licenses from the National Bank of Rwanda that allow it to offer its services to more than 13 million people living and working in Rwanda. According to a Flutterwave representative in the country, the two licenses allow her company to “provide secure, reliable and convenient payment services for individuals and businesses in Rwanda.”
Assistance to individuals and legal entities in Rwanda
Nigerian fintech giant Flutterwave announced On March 15, the company received two additional licenses in Rwanda, which will help it expand its operations in East Africa. The licenses, known as the Electronic Money Issuer and Money Transfer Licenses, were issued by the National Bank of Rwanda. They allow the fintech firm to offer its services to more than 13 million people living and working in Rwanda.
Holding two licenses also allows Flutterwave to deploy a range of products, including cross-border money transfer solutions, according to a statement released by the fintech company. Products including the Flutterwave store, payment links, invoices, and checkout will also become available to individuals and businesses in Rwanda.
Commenting on the news, Olugbenga Agbula, founder and CEO of Flutterwave, said the award of licenses shows fintech’s commitment to its vision of connecting Africa through payments. The CEO also explained why Rwanda is an important market for Flutterwave. He said:
“As a country well known for its innovation and advancement in the use of digital technologies, Rwanda has always played an important role in our expansion plans in East Africa. We are pleased with the vote of confidence in obtaining these licenses,” Agbula said.
