The NFT marketplace OpeaSea has launched a set of new Drop features that give designers new tools to create assets on the site.
These include multi-stage minting steps, whitelisting support, and extensive descriptive components, among others.
The next phase of Drops was announced by OpenSea on February 2nd. The rollout is expected to take place over the next few weeks, eventually allowing all users of the platform to set up smart contracts across all EVM chains, set up drop mechanisms, and create personalized landing pages. OpenSea has announced that it will initially provide access to a select group of developers in the coming weeks, and those interested in getting an early look at the toolset can request it’s online.
According to OpenSea, the goal of the new Drops feature is to enable anyone to sell their collections on their storefront on any network without the need for special knowledge or extensive technological resources to create a custom landing page.
So far, the marketplace has featured Drops from various creators including omgkirby, CLOUDMACHINE, probably a label, and Anthony Hopkins on custom landing pages. A marketplace person’s profile page may contain videos, photo galleries, item specifications, and plans for future projects.
OpenSea has attracted attention for its strict policy on enforcing creator royalties, to the point of restricting the sale of NFTs originally minted on its platform to certain secondary markets that do not charge royalties.
In 2022 OpenSea dominance in the NFT market shrunken by 23%.
