The government of Ukraine has sold a Cryptopunk NFT donated in support of the war-torn country a few months ago. According to the country’s digital transformation ministry, the token was bought by an unknown buyer who spent over $100,000 in Ethereum on a collectible.
Ukrainian government sells donated Cryptopunk tokens for 90 Ethereum
Ukrainian authorities have raised over $100,000 from the sale of a non-fungible Cryptopunk token (NFTs), Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov and his deputy Alexander Bornyakov reported on social networks. A unique collectible was purchased by an unknown investor for 90 ether (Ethereum).

The NFT, Cryptopunk #5364, was donated to the Help Ukraine cryptocurrency fundraising campaign in early March. Bornyakov tweeted at the time that it cost 56. Ethereum but the price of ethereum and other cryptocurrencies was significantly higher until the last cryptocurrency market downturn.
The Eastern European nation, a former Soviet republic, was invaded by its much larger neighbor, Russia, in the early hours of February 24th. The government in Kyiv and a number of volunteer organizations have since increasingly relied on donations in cryptocurrencies, including NFTs. The country has already raised millions of dollars to fund its defense and humanitarian efforts.

The global crypto community continues to support Ukraine, Oleksiy Bornyakov noted on Twitter on Monday, announcing the sale of a token from the Cryptopunk collection. “Just wanted to thank the crypto community for such a generous donation,” Mikhail Fedorov, who is also Ukraine’s vice prime minister, wrote on Tuesday.
Cryptopunks is a collection of NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Launched in 2017, the project offered some of the first cryptocurrency collectibles. Cryptopunk #5364 is not the first non-fungible token used to raise funds for Ukraine. In March, the Ukrainian flag NFT sale raised over $6.7 million in Ethereum.
