The Eastern European nation, a former Soviet republic, was invaded by its much larger neighbor, Russia, in the early hours of February 24th. The government in Kyiv and a number of volunteer organizations have since increasingly relied on donations in cryptocurrencies, including NFTs. The country has already raised millions of dollars to fund its defense and humanitarian efforts.

The global crypto community continues to support Ukraine, Oleksiy Bornyakov noted on Twitter on Monday, announcing the sale of a token from the Cryptopunk collection. “Just wanted to thank the crypto community for such a generous donation,” Mikhail Fedorov, who is also Ukraine’s vice prime minister, wrote on Tuesday.

Cryptopunks is a collection of NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Launched in 2017, the project offered some of the first cryptocurrency collectibles. Cryptopunk #5364 is not the first non-fungible token used to raise funds for Ukraine. In March, the Ukrainian flag NFT sale raised over $6.7 million in Ethereum.
